Founder & Executive ProducerBob Denham is a filmmaker with a First Class Degree in Economics and Econometrics and a background in journalism, banking and education. Bob founded Econ Films in 2014 to provide a way for researchers to communicate in the growing area of online video. Since then, he has produced hundreds of films and videos across many disciplines to international media coverage and praise. Bob is also co-founder of Communicating Economics – a joint project with the IFS and the University of Manchester providing tools, tips and training for economists, for free.
Managing Director & Executive ProducerAndrew Cryan has worked in television for 15 years, primarily as an on-screen reporter on flagship BBC programmes such as Sunday Politics, Daily Politics, BBC London News and BBC Breakfast. Off-screen, he has helped produce many hours of documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4, including as the Director of “Boris:The London Years”, BBC1 (2016). He has personally interviewed many of the biggest names in politics (Jeremy Corbyn, Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg, Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage, Sadiq Khan) and his work as an investigative journalist has been written about in every national newspaper in the UK.
Head of Development
Paul Lancaster has worked in media and production for over 15 years, including roles at Channel 4 and Film London and nearly ten years leading on video and content partnerships at The Guardian. This has involved working with a range of organisations from The Department of Health and The British Red Cross to Amazon, HBO and IBM. Paul is responsible for working closely with our clients to ensure we deliver fully on their objectives, from project design to delivery, and helping them tell their stories to a wider audience.
Simon Vaughan is an Editor, Animator and Videographer who has worked in a wide range of video production, from feature films to advertising. Simon worked with Saatchi & Saatchi for seven years, creating content for some of the worlds largest brands including Proctor & Gamble, GSK and HSBC. Simon has managed the post-production of over a hundred films about economic research and interviews with dozens of Nobel Laureates.
Producer / Director / Animator
Max McGill is a BAFTA-nominated Producer, Director and Animator. He has spent more than 15 years in TV production for the BBC in current affairs and politics on shows such as This Week, Sunday Politics, Political Slot, Politics Show, and BBC News. At Econ Films he has worked with clients on three continents, turning their work into something easily accessible, engaging – and entertaining!
Assistant ProducerRaphael Fischer studied Economics at Bristol University right before joining Econ Films in 2015. From drafting storyboards to running interviews and editing together the first drafts, he’s there to turn your research into a clear, succinct story. He’s held hundreds of interviews with economists and other scientists of all stripes, from junior researchers to top policymakers and first-timers to media personalities.

Jon is a cinematographer and television lighting cameraman with extensive professional experience. His credits include work for many major international broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4 & Bloomberg, on dramas, commercials, promos, documentaries, and films about economics!
Research PartnershipsPiril Ozgercin is an economist and communicator. She studied Economics and Politics, as a part of the Dual BA Program between Columbia University and Sciences Po, before pursuing her MSc degree in the Department of Government at the London School of Economics. At the same time, she interned for Cumhuriyet Daily, one of the main opposition newspapers in Turkey. Piril combines analytical rigour with a burning passion for film.

Production Coordinator / Office ManagerEmma Griffin Beat has spent the last four years working for the advertising production company, Hogarth Worldwide. Based at one of their joint ventures with Ogilvy UK, Emma has been involved in the production of numerous TVC’s, branded online & social content campaigns with global companies such as Philips, British Airways, Ernst & Young, Hellmann’s, Ford, Walgreens Boots Alliance & Vodafone. Her production knowledge and organisation skills keep the cogs turning at Econ Films day to day.
